I am a multiple award-winning journalist with more than two decades’ experience. I have worked for a number of national media houses in South Africa, and have served in digital editor’s positions for the SABC, eNCA, and The Citizen. I specialise in communications, digital newsroom management, and content strategies.
Standing out in the digital landscape
I won my first journalism award in 2016 – an IAB SA Bookmark Award for feature writing. Most of the work was done collaboratively as I had been embarking on a process to upskill my colleagues in the SABC’s digital newsroom. Because I believe the best way to learn something is through doing it, I demonstrated and co-created pieces of journalism that offered depth and insight. Through also leveraging partnerships with other broadcast journalists in the SABC, an award-wining body of wark was shaped.
Varied skillset
While my professional roots remain in journalism, I have also diversified into communications, serving as Head of Communications for the Royal Bafokeng Nation (RBN) and the Free State Department of Public Works and Rural Development, as well as working for Rhodes University as Communications and Marketing manager. My academic hat evolved as I started lecturing journalism at Boston Media House (BMH) and then various Brand Communication disciplines at Vega School in Johannesburg where I also served as a Module Discipline Leader (MDL) in the Brand Communications space. I offer a unique perspective as a newshound, communications and brand expert, and natural educator. I think out of the box, but back the maverick in me with years of experience.
